ME: Individual Creative Skills
Develop personal creative habits: attention, tolerance for ambiguity, persistence, and initiative.
At Colors Make Shapes, workshops are portals into the deeper dimensions of creativity.
CMS offers two types of workshops: those that build individual creative capacity—focus, imagination, persistence, and initiative—and those that build collaborative capacity, strengthening communication, shared problem-solving, and team culture. Together, these workshops help organizations develop both the personal and interpersonal skills that drive innovation.
Each immersive session invites your team to engage with a core principle of creative thinking, blending experiential insight with practical skill-building. Participants emerge equipped with renewed confidence, sharpened intuition, and tools to co-create more consciously.
Develop personal creative habits: attention, tolerance for ambiguity, persistence, and initiative.
This workshop invites participants to rediscover the power of play as a catalyst for problem solving. Through the hands-on medium of gel-printing, teams explore experimentation, iteration, and the creative process of working through the unknown. Mistakes become invitations. Surprises become insights. By engaging playfully with real materials, participants strengthen their ability to adapt, think flexibly, and approach challenges with curiosity rather than control. Walk away with prints in hand and a deeper understanding of how play leads to breakthrough solutions.
This workshop is an invitation to slow down and see differently. Through guided mindfulness and observation drawing, participants sharpen their attention to detail and expand their capacity to notice what usually goes unseen. No experience is necessary; even beginners will walk away with a real portrait. But all participants can prepare to be surprised by insights, emotions, and a deeper connection to presence. This session teaches more than drawing—it’s about learning how to truly observe.
This workshop is a deep dive into the generative power of imagination. Participants will practice synthesizing everyday forms into entirely new creations—hybrids, dreamscapes, and surreal inventions that stretch the boundaries of what’s possible. Through playful prompts and hands-on experimentation, you’ll explore how the mind can leap, combine, and transform. The session isn’t about escapism, it’s about exercising the creative muscle that helps us envision bold solutions, new systems, and alternative futures. Come ready to see what you haven’t seen before!
This workshop explores abstraction as a powerful tool for expression and insight. Through writing, photography, charcoal, oil pastel, and wire sculpture, participants learn how to translate ideas, emotions, and experiences into visual and symbolic forms. Rather than aiming for representation, you’ll practice distillation—capturing the essence of a feeling or concept in unexpected ways. Along the way, we explore how abstract thinking supports creativity, problem-solving, and communication across all areas of life. Come ready to get messy and think in new dimensions.
Develop relational capacities: collaboration, co-creation, shared problem-solving, and building a culture where ideas flow.
This workshop activates spatial intelligence and collaborative creativity through fast-paced design challenges. Working in teams, participants take on two imaginative tasks with clear constraints—moving ideas from sketch to structure, and from two-dimensional concepts to three- and even four-dimensional experiences. Along the way, you’ll stretch your perspective on what’s possible when form, function, and imagination intersect. Expect laughter, experimentation, and moments of surprise as you engage with design-thinking in motion.
This workshop explores transformation as both process and metaphor. Participants move through four unexpected stages of metamorphosis—shifting materials, reworking ideas, and dissolving or forming teams along the way. No one knows what’s coming next. Through activities like shadow-to-form drawings or collaborative stop motion animation, you’ll experience how change fuels creativity. Rather than preserving what you made, participants will discover what it can become. This is a session for those willing to let go, play with mystery, and embrace the thrill of the unknown.
This workshop explores what happens when ideas—and people—combine. Through collaborative finger painting, co-authored lyric books, and playful remix exercises like exquisite corpse, participants explore how ideas take shape through connection. You’ll experiment with combining words, images, and gestures in ways that are surprising, imperfect, and deeply human. The emphasis is on co-creation: staying present, responding to others, and letting go of control. By the end, you’ll leave with shared artifacts and a fresh sense of what’s possible when we make space for each other’s ideas.
In this world-building workshop, imagination becomes architecture. It begins with sculpted creatures—strange, playful, one-of-a-kind—and expands into shared environments shaped by unlikely materials and even unlikelier settings. Together, participants invent how their creatures live, move, reproduce, worship, and adapt, facing challenges both absurd and eerily familiar.
Each group brings their world to life through storytelling, performance, or artifact. Tiny Gods, Big Problems is part sculpture, part systems thinking, part speculative fiction—and entirely unexpected.
